Week 17: Invergordon take top spot in Christmas derby

Invergordon 1 St. Duthus 0

Invergordon have taken top spot in the Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League thanks to a big win over Easter Ross rivals St. Duthus at the Recreation Grounds.

It looked as though Saints might take an early lead when they were awarded a penalty kick on ten minutes, but Saints striker Ben Bruce fired his spot kick wide of the post. At the other end, Invergordon hit the woodwork and were left to wonder if they might rue their chances on a couple of occasions.

The deadlock was eventually broken on 67 minutes when Shaun Kerr tucked home the rebound after Jordan Knight had forced a save.

St. Duthus fought on without reply as Invergordon secured all three points to jump into first place for the first time this season.

Bonar Bridge 1 Orkney 13

It was an afternoon to forget for Bonar Bridge as they fell foul of a twelve goal deficit at home to Orkney in the Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League.

Six goals up in the first half, Orkney found it easy going at Meadows Park against their Sutherland counterparts, with Liam Delday notching a hat-trick before the interval, either side of goals from Chris Hellewell, Chris Simpson and Connan Rendall.

Delday added another to get the second half going before Bonar's Joel Goldsby pulled one back. From there, the floodgates reopened and goals from Jamie Clouston, Aiden Drever, Sam Rendall, James Pickles and a fifth goal for Delday rounded things off for the Orcadians.

Golspie Sutherland 5 Bunillidh Thistle 1 (Football Times Cup - North)

Golspie Sutherland completed their North Section fixtures in this season's Football Times Cup to emerge as winners of the group. They had already secured their place in this season's final following their 4-0 win in Halkirk a fortnight ago - but today's win over Bunillidh Thistle rounds off a 100% record.

Liam Bremner opened the scoring after 20 minutes, netting his 13th goal of the season. It took until the second half for Golspie to extend their lead and they did so with two early second half goals, from Colin Sinclair and Grant Budge.

Youngster Eoghann Davie put the game well beyond Bunillidh with a goal twenty minutes from time, but a late Billy Cairns strike prevented a clean sheet from happening as Bunillidh notched a consolation.

Craig Ross completed the scoring for Golspie in the final minute of the game.

Halkirk United 2 Thurso 1 (Football Times Cup - North)

A Christmas derby in Caithness decided the "best of the rest" in the Football Times Cup North Section, with Halkirk United emerging victorious at Morrison Park thanks to a second half fightback.

A Michael Petrie goal on 29 minutes gave Thurso the edge and the lead at half time. But just nine minutes into the second half, James Mackintosh levelled the affair for the Anglers.

Halkirk then broke the deadlock with eighteen minutes left when Korbyn Cameron found the net to give his side a 2-1 lead.
