Invergordon take Jock Mackay Cup spoils

In preserving the memory of one of the league’s greatest servants, Jock Mackay, we have since 2022 been presenting his memorial trophy to the winner of the Easter Ross derby between Invergordon and Alness United each season.
Today, the teams met at the Recreation Grounds where, after a hard fought match, Invergordon were victorious by 3 goals to 1.
Post-match, Jock’s daughter Andrea and granddaughter Nadine joined NCFA president Niall Harkiss in awarding the cup to Invergordon captain Cameron Mackintosh.
After the game, Mr Harkiss addressed players and reaffirmed the importance of the trophy with a reminder of the impact Jock Mackay had on the league, as an instrumental figure both in the association’s most significant period of growth in their history between the 1970s and 90s, and the increasing impact of teams in the Ross area, which previously had no presence in the league.
He finished by expressing hope that teams can agree upon a way to reintroduce the competition to the regular schedule in future seasons.
